Mineral Exploration before drilling

Can You Detect Minerals Before Drilling?

Geophysics cannot prove an orebody without drilling — but it can provide evidence about the subsurface before the rig arrives. VEXRAD uses Atomic Dielectric Resonance (ADR) to add depth-referenced pre-drill intelligence at selected targets.

SHORT ANSWER

Yes — but define “detect” carefully.

Surface geophysics can detect measurable physical responses that may be consistent with geological structures, alteration or mineralisation. ADR turns its surface-acquired electromagnetic measurements into a depth-referenced Virtual Borehole. The result is a prediction to test, not a remote assay.

BEFORE THE DRILL

Detection is not the same as proving an orebody.

What geophysics can do

Measure physical responses associated with subsurface geology, structures and mineral systems, then use those responses to rank targets.

What ADR adds

A surface-acquired, depth-referenced evidence layer at selected locations, processed into a Virtual Borehole for geological interpretation.

What only drilling proves

Core, assays and geological logging remain the ground truth for grade, mineralogy, thickness and resource definition.

WHAT ADR MAY HELP INTERPRET

Depth-referenced subsurface intelligence

QuestionPotential ADR contributionBoundary
Where does geology change?Lithological changes, formation boundaries and structures.Interpretation is project- and calibration-dependent.
Where is the target interval?Candidate anomalous/mineralisation-related intervals with depth. Not an assay or grade measurement.
Which target should be drilled first? An additional evidence layer for ranking and drill planning. No guarantee of discovery or economic mineralisation.
The useful question is not “Can ADR replace drilling?”
It is whether additional pre-drill evidence can improve target ranking, drill placement and the information gained per metre drilled.
EVIDENCE

Test the prediction against the drill.

VEXRAD publishes mineral case studies under an evidence framework that distinguishes validated results, grounded interpretations, candidate targets and known nulls. See the Insights & Evidence library and the Virtual Borehole methodology.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Questions technical teams ask

Can minerals be detected before drilling?

Geophysics can detect physical responses and anomalies that may be associated with mineral systems before drilling. These are indirect measurements; drilling and assays remain necessary to confirm mineralisation, grade and economic significance.

Can ADR identify gold or copper directly?

ADR should not be treated as a remote assay. VEXRAD interprets multi-attribute electromagnetic response patterns and candidate intervals in geological context; commodity identity and grade require independent ground truth.

Can a Virtual Borehole replace a physical borehole?

No. A Virtual Borehole is a predictive, depth-referenced geophysical interpretation intended to improve the decision before drilling and to be tested against the physical borehole.

How should ADR be validated?

Where possible, define the geological question, acquire and interpret ADR, freeze the prediction before the result is known, then compare it with independent drilling, core, logs or assays.

YOUR PROJECT

Turn the search question into a testable geological question.

VEXRAD’s no-cost Project Fit Check reviews the target, depth, geology and evidence already available before recommending whether ADR is technically relevant.
